Mercy Grove, located at 1980 Garland Street and also known as Blue Manor due to its distinctive blue shingled roof, is a venue rich in history and charm, ideal for hosting your special events. Built in 1935 for Fred J. Gall, this pre-WWII Modern Movement architecture originally featured blue awnings on three sides of the white wooden clapboard house.
In 1946, the Sisters of Mercy acquired the property from Ralph and Harriet Fry and transformed it into a serene retreat. The house was remodeled in the Minimal Traditional style, including the addition of a small chapel on the first floor. The Sisters used the home as a rest haven, allowing them to spend a week or two communing with nature and rejuvenating their spirits. They also sold apples by the roadside and enjoyed picnics in the orchards, enriching the local community with their presence and produce.
In 1987, the Sisters sold the house to Fred and Katherine Dewey, and by 2014, Meshelle McKendry became its owner. Today, Mercy Grove stands as a testament to its storied past, offering a picturesque setting for weddings, engagement parties, birthdays, retirement celebrations, and celebrations of life.
The allure of Mercy Grove lies in its stunning outdoor grounds. The beautifully restored property and studio are surrounded by breathtaking gardens, a picturesque apple tree, grape vines, raspberry bushes, and an array of perennials that bloom throughout the year. Guests can wander through the sprawling gardens, relax on the multiple sitting patios, and take in the serene landscape that once served as a place of respite for the Sisters of Mercy.
While the interior of the building is reserved for bathrooms, dressing rooms, and photo opportunities for smaller events, the exterior grounds provide an enchanting backdrop for any event. Imagine your wedding ceremony set against the backdrop of blooming gardens, or a birthday celebration amidst the tranquil apple tree. The peony-lined gated driveway and gazebo add a touch of elegance and charm, welcoming your guests to an unforgettable experience.
Mercy Grove's location is another asset, conveniently situated just 15 minutes from downtown and the mountains. This proximity allows guests to enjoy both the tranquility of a secluded venue and the accessibility to urban amenities and natural beauty. Whether you are planning a large gathering or an intimate celebration, Mercy Grove offers the perfect balance of history, beauty, and convenience.
The legacy of Mercy Grove, from its origins as Blue Manor to its role as a sanctuary for the Sisters of Mercy, enriches every event held on its grounds.
